Iāve talked to a lot of D2C founders in the past month and asked them how theyāre using ChatGPT and it still surprises me š¤
These founders have built multi-million dollar brands worth $10M to $100M BUT donāt know how to prompt ChatGPT the right way.
Hereās what Iām hearing and seeing in terms of prompts (maybe youāre also doing this).
Theyāll go into GPT-4 and then input:
āBehave like an e-commerce expert and create a homepage headline for a [Industry] product called "[product]" from the brand "[brand]" and hereās our websiteā
Thatās a good start and thereās nothing wrong with that from an initial look.
But, if you want to really take it to the next level, then I want you to treat ChatGPT as if itās a human being.
What do I mean by that?
Stop treating it like a robot and communicate as if you just hired and are about to onboard the worldās #1 _________________ (influencer marketing manager, creative strategist, Operations lead, etc.)
To start, hereās a checklist of things that you want to input it with to start training it to achieve your brandās goals ā btw this works for any company and not just D2C.
Only do one role and a specific function per chat ā ex. youāre the worldās #1 Influencer Marketing Strategist at [brand website] thatās built our Influencer Marketing Strategy.
Include the roles and responsibilities that you have in that job post or a template that youāve customized online and add that in.
Tell GPT-4 what the objective or goal of their role is and define what success and failure look like ā weāll go through a specific example later ā.
Provide it with as much relevant information from your docs, slides, or anything you have for this specific role's success, and just copy and paste it.
If this info is hosted on provided documents, donāt just copy the link. Copy the content of the site and paste it into the chat.Get into the habit of having ChatGPT-4 tell you why it came up with this type of an answer (this will be super key later on)

Now you can do this for any role that you want. It can be your for operations, marketing, retail, ads, social, email marketing, branding etc - any role that you want.
For the purposes of this walkthrough, we are going to go with an influencer marketing manager BUT this works for ANY core role.
There are roughly 13 areas that youāll wanna specify to ChatGPT. Of course, you can add more depending on how your business looks, but these will take you very far.

GPT-4 Prompt: I want you to fill in the template above with myobvi.com (crawl its entire website, Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, and everything that you can possibly find about the brand thatās ever existed, and process this before you fill it in with the core important factors.
Pay close attention to the image below, because by the end of this, hereās what your prompt should look like:
See how I didnāt come short in any description, and neither did I leave things up for interpretation of GPT-4.
Correct anything that could be better and so it looks solid before progressing.
Give it as much input as you can like a full-time hire, so you get the best possible output.
Make any adjustments to the above with a mix of GPT-4 assisting you and also your own specific nuances and context since you know your brand the best.

After reading the response, youāll notice that the next step is to provide detailed answers to the questions that itās asking you. You may get 2, 3, 4, and sometimes maybe even more questions. Thereās no right or wrong.Ā
Now at this point, the sky is the limit, or rather your critical thinking capabilities and how you choose to interact with it.
And we can start asking it exactly what we want whether that be a high-level influencer marketing plan with a specific step-by-step SOP or sending us those case studies it looked into.
You can also get super in the weeds by asking it for a list of the top influencers it recommends and why.
š An important rule of thumb: Make sure that you donāt delete this chat because once you do, you will lose all the education, learning, and prompting thatās saved in the chat.
Itās like a video game save point that youāll want to continue the journey on instead of starting from scratch again. š¹ļø
What I do is I just create a simple Google Doc where I list each specific role and chat link associated with it so I just have a short link for me and my team to access any chat at any time for anything.
Itās the first thing I do now before I want to execute anything is to have several of these GPT-4 open and be working alongside it.
